The short answer
Choose Upwork when you have a clear project, know how to judge the work and are happy to manage a contractor. Choose Jadeed when you want a team that already knows how local service businesses win jobs online, owns the plan end to end, and reports on enquiries and bookings rather than hours.
Choose Upwork contractors if
- You have an in-house marketer or manager who can brief and supervise contractors.
- You need a specific skill for a defined project — a developer for a feature, a designer for a rebrand.
- You want to build a long-term relationship with an individual specialist and manage them directly.
- Your needs are outside what a local-growth partner does.
Choose Jadeed if
- Nobody in your business has the time to hire, brief and manage contractors.
- You want the website, SEO, ads and tracking planned together by people who work on local service businesses every day.
- You would rather pay for a defined scope or for results than for open-ended hours.
- You want reporting in enquiries and booked jobs.

What Upwork does well
Upwork connects businesses with freelancers and agencies across almost every skill. You can hire on an hourly or fixed-price basis, review work histories and ratings, and use the platform’s contracts and payment protection. For a business that already knows what it needs, it is an efficient way to find people.
It works particularly well when:
- You have someone in-house who can write a clear brief and judge the quality of the work.
- The project is well defined: build this feature, migrate this site, design this set of pages.
- You want direct control over who does the work and how.
The hidden job: managing the work
Hiring on Upwork makes you the manager. For a local service business owner who is also running jobs, quoting and handling staff, that management time is the biggest cost — and it is rarely counted.
A typical growth project needs several skills: web development, local SEO, content, Google Ads, tracking and analytics. On a marketplace, that often means several contracts. Somebody then has to:
- Decide what each contractor should do and in what order.
- Make sure the website, SEO and ads work together rather than against each other.
- Check quality — including technical work you may not be able to judge.
- Connect the tracking so you know which work produced enquiries.
- Keep things moving when a contractor becomes unavailable.
When that coordination does not happen, the usual result is a nicely built website that nobody finds, or ads sending traffic to a page that does not convert.
Hourly billing versus paying for outcomes
Hourly contracts pay for time spent, which is fair for defined technical work but a poor fit for marketing, where the aim is results rather than activity. The more hours logged, the more you pay — whether or not the phone rings.
With Jadeed you choose how to pay:
- Fixed-fee plans for a defined scope and a predictable monthly cost — SEO from £100 a month with a six-month minimum, websites from £199.
- Performance deals where the fee is a share of revenue from bookings the work generates — typically around 10% for standard-ticket jobs, on a 12–24 month term.
- Tiered deals with a fixed fee per completed job, for higher-value work.
Performance deals need more from you — agreed attribution, access to booking records, response commitments — and our Profit-Share Handbook explains every requirement before you commit.
Specialism and continuity
Many excellent contractors on Upwork are generalists: they build sites or run ads for any kind of business. Local service businesses have particular needs — map rankings, emergency and planned work, service areas, review generation, call handling — and experience with them shortens the learning curve.
Continuity matters too. A single contractor can become unavailable, change focus or raise rates, and the knowledge of your account leaves with them. We are a small, founder-led team working with around ten active clients, so knowledge of your business is shared rather than held by one person — and because every account is in your business’s name, you are never locked in.
Using both
It is not always either-or. Some clients keep a trusted contractor for a specialist skill — a developer for their booking system, say — while we run local growth. That works well when roles are clear: we coordinate the marketing side, share access and tracking, and make sure the pieces fit together.
Frequently asked questions
- Do you replace my Upwork developer?
- We can take over website, SEO and growth as one engagement, or work alongside a developer you want to keep, with clear responsibilities for each.
- Is Jadeed an Upwork agency?
- No. We work directly with clients under our own agreements, with every account in the client’s name.
- Can I hire you for a fixed project instead of an ongoing plan?
- Yes. Websites, landing pages, audits and apps can all be fixed-scope projects with a price agreed before work starts. See pricing.
- How do you report progress?
- Monthly, in plain terms: search visibility, Map actions, calls, forms, WhatsApp enquiries and — where we can track them — booked jobs.
